Youth POD: Pockets of Disciples
The concept of YouthPods arose from our Mission, in which the Sion team held actvities with our youth in "Pods", or Pockets of Disciples. These proved so popular that we took the idea of the Pods to each church, where after at least one weekend mass at each church the Youth Stewards lead our Pods in a variety of projects.
The YouthPods are a vital part of the Youth St Vincent de Paul organisation. Some of our recent projects have included:
- Collecting food from Parishoners for the meal deal project, where each person gives in for example a bag of pasta, a jar of sauce and a canned dessert that can be made into a meal to be given out at food banks;
- Making and running the 'Giving Trees' project in the churches, where we raised almost £4000 worth of food vouchers to be given to the poor and needy at food banks;
- Making Valentines cards to be given to the residents of the Little Sisters of the Poor;
The YouthPods are always looking out for new projects to get involved in. Some previous projects are making Easter cards for the Apostleship of the Sea/Little Sisters of the Poor and participating in our Parish project for Bamenda.
If you would like to coordinate a YouthPod in your church, we would love to hear from you. Support can be provided. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
